Oven-baked salmon with ginger and a crunchy topping

A creamy and flavourful salmon dish with sambal oelek, garlic, ginger and a crunchy topping. Perfect for an easy dinner where just a few ingredients deliver plenty of flavour.

Oven-baked salmon is one of those dishes that feels both simple and a little extra special at the same time. The mild salmon gains plenty of character from sambal oelek, garlic and freshly grated ginger, while capers and crunchy croutons give the dish both depth and texture.

It is a recipe that is perfect for weekdays when dinner needs to be easy but still full of flavour. The cooking cream brings everything together in a creamy sauce, and as the salmon bakes in the oven, the dish largely takes care of itself.

For this dish, a 24 cm sauté pot is an obvious choice, as the higher sides provide plenty of room for both salmon and cream. When serving, a slotted turner is useful for lifting out the salmon neatly, and an oven glove is practical when taking the hot pot straight from the oven to the table.

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees.
  2. Lightly grease a pan or pot and place the salmon fillet inside. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Spread the sambal oelek over the salmon.
  4. Thinly slice the garlic and spread it over the salmon along with the grated ginger and lightly crushed capers.
  5. Coarsely crush the croutons and sprinkle them over the salmon as a crunchy topping.
  6. Pour the cooking cream around the salmon.
  7. Bake in the oven for approx. 20 minutes, until the salmon is tender and cooked through.
  8. Serve the oven-baked salmon immediately with a nice salad on the side.

Tips for extra delicious oven-baked salmon

For an even crunchier topping, place the dish under the oven grill for a couple of minutes at the end. Keep a close eye on it so the croutons do not become too dark.

Let the salmon rest for 2-3 minutes after baking to allow the juices to settle, making the fish even juicier when served.

Serving

Serve the salmon while it is still hot and creamy, ideally with a fresh green salad to add a little crunch and balance to the dish. The mild cream sauce also goes well with boiled potatoes, rice or a piece of good bread.

To make the presentation a little more inviting, top with a little freshly grated ginger or a few extra capers just before serving. This adds both more flavour and a more attractive finish on the plate.

This is a dish that shows how much you can achieve with a few ingredients and simple preparation. Oven-baked salmon with ginger and a crunchy topping is therefore an obvious choice when you want to make something easy yet truly tasty.
